Iraq Watch: April 30, 2007

Rundown of Violence
Anbar Province
_ Six people were killed when a tanker truck fitted with chlorine gas exploded west of Ramadi.
Baghdad Province
_ A car bomb in the capital's mixed Baiyaa district left five dead and 10 injured.
_ At least four Iraqis were killed when a suicide car bomber rammed into a security checkpoint in western Baghdad. The mid-morning blast caused part of a nearby tunnel to collapse.
_ Mortar rounds slammed into a nothern Baghdad neighborhood Monday killing at least six civilians.
_ 27 corpses were discovered scattered across Baghdad. Those found were believed to be the victims of sectarian death squads.
Diyala Province
_ A suicide bomber attacked a Shiite funeral procession Monday evening in Khalis. At least 32 mourners were killed and another 63 wounded.

Rundown of Violence
Anbar Province
_ A suicide car bombing killed 25 people at a police checkpoint outside of Ramadi. Nearly 45 others were reported wounded in the attack.
Baghdad Province
_ Authorities have reported finding the bodies of 19 people in the Baghdad area over the past 24 hours.
_ 10 civilians were killed and over 15 injured when mortar rounds crashed into a market in southern Baghdad.
Diyala Province
_ In an apparently sectarian-motivated attack, gunmen killed at least six Iraqis and set fire to five houses near Baqouba.
Nineveh Province
_ Five bodies were found across the northern city of Mosul Tuesday.

Anbar Province
_ A series of suicide car bombings killed some 20 people in Ramadi. Over 30 others were reported wounded in the blasts.
Baghdad Province
_ At least seven Iraqis were killed and more than 15 injured in a suicide bombing near the entrance of the heavily fortified Green Zone.
_ A car bomb exploded outside the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, leaving at least one person dead.
Diyala Province
_ 10 Iraqi police officers were killed in a suicide car bombing in Baqouba. Among the dead was the city's police chief.
_ Nine U.S. soldiers were killed in a double suicide truck bombing outside the Sadah patrol base near Baqouba. 20 other American service personel were wounded in the bombings.
Nineveh Province
_ A suicide car bomber plowed into the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) offices in Tal Uskuf, just north of Mosul. 10 Iraqis were killed and 20 others wounded in the bombing.

_ At least 13 Iraqis were killed when two suicide car bombers attacked a police station in western Baghdad. 82 others were wounded in the bombings, which also heavily damaged several nearby buildings.
_ In a southwestern district of the capital a car bomb explosion left seven dead and over 40 injured.
Ninevah Province
_ Gunmen shot-to-death 23 Yazidi laborers in northern Iraq. The men were killed after their bus was stopped en route to the predominantly Yazidi city of Bashika.

_ Militants assassinated the head of Fallujah's city council, Sami Abdul-Amir, in a drive-by shooting Saturday.
Babil Province
_ The mayor of Musayyib, situated some 40 miles south of Baghdad, was killed in a roadside bombing. A bodyguard was also killed in the attack while four others were wounded.
Baghdad Province
_ A bomb left on a bus exploded Saturday in the capital's Sadr City district leaving at least three dead.
_ Police found 11 bodies scattered around Baghdad.
Diyala Province
_ Authorities discovered eight bodies, including four who had been decapitated, in the town of Khalis.
Tamim Province
_ Gunmen stormed the house of a Kurdish family in the northern, ethnically mixed city of Kirkuk, killing four.

_ A suicide truck bomber killed two civilians and wounded nearly 40 more when he detonated his vehicle near a Fallujah police station.
_ Eight U.S. soldiers were wounded and one Iraqi civilian killed when a suicide bomber detonated a dump truck full of explosives at a checkpoint in the town of Saqlawiyah.

_ The bodies of 19 people were found in and around Baghdad Friday.
_ Clashes between suspected militiamen and American forces outside a prominent Shiite mosque in western Baghdad left at least two Iraqis dead.

_ An Iraqi civilian was killed in a roadside bomb blast in the southern city of Nasiriyah.
Diyala Province
_ Two Iraqi policemen were killed when insurgents opened fire on a police patrol in Baqouba. Eight others were injured in the attack.

_ A car bomb tore through the capital's Sadriyah market killing at least 127 and wounding nearly 150 more.
_ A suicide car bomber attacked a police checkpoint near the Shiite enclave of Sadr City leaving over 40 dead and 75 injured.
_ In the central Karradah district a car bomb exploded outside a local hospital killing at least 11 bystanders. 13 others were reported injured in the bombing.
_ Four Iraqis were killed when a bomb hidden on a minibus detonated in the Rusafi neighborhood.
_ A suicide car bomber killed two Iraqi policemen and two civilians late Wednesday in southeastern Baghdad's Saydiyah district. An additional eight people were wounded.
Diyala Province
_ 18 corpses were found in the religiously mixed city of Baqouba.
Nineveh Province
_ A roadside bomb killed an Iraqi soldier and a civilian in eastern Mosul. Also Wednesday, eight bodies were found in the northern city.
Salahuddin Province
_ Gunmen assassinated three people in Beiji, 155 miles north of Baghdad, including the son of Iraq's deputy interior minister.

_ 17 bodies were found in an abandoned schoolyard in the provincial capital of Ramadi.
Baghdad Province
_ The executed bodies of at least 25 people were found across Baghdad Tuesday.
Nineveh Province
_ Mosul's deputy chief of police was assassinated along with two members of his security detail Tuesday in the northern city.
_ Also in Mosul, authorities discovered nine bodies in various parts of the town.
Tamim Province
_ A car bomb detonated next to a passing police patrol in Hawija killing at least three Iraqis. Four others were wounded in the bombing.
Wasit Province
_ Three corpses were fished out of the Tigris River Tuesday near the city of Suwayrah. One of the bodies had been beheaded.

_ Iraqi police discovered the bodies of seven shooting victims in the city of Falljuah, 40 miles west of Baghdad.
_ U.S. soldiers mistakenly killed three Iraqi policemen during a botched raid against suspected militants in Ramadi.
Babil Province
_ A barrage of mortars left three Iraqis dead and at least 18 others injured in Mahmoudiya.
Baghdad Province
_ Security sources reported finding at least 11 bodies in the Baghdad area on Monday.
Nineveh Province
_ At least 13 Iraqis soldiers were killed when militants overran their checkpoint Monday morning south of Mosul. Four other soldiers were reported wounded in the attack.
_ Two university professors were gunned down in separate incidents in Mosul.
Salahuddin Province
_ A suicide car bomber killed nine people and wounded ten when he exploded his vehicle outside a police station in Isahaqi, north of Balad.
Tamim Province
_ Gunmen assassinated the imam of a Sunni mosque in Hawija. Elsewhere in the predominately Sunni town, authorities found the executed bodies of three people.

Baghdad Province
_ 18 people were killed and an additional 50 were wounded in two bombings in the capital's predominately Shiite Shurta Rabia district.
_ A suicide bomber riding a minibus blew himself up in Baghdad's northwestern al-Utafiyah neighborhood. At least eight people were killed in the bombing and 11 others were injured.
_ In the central Karradah district an explosives-laden minibus detonated leaving at least 11 Iraqis dead and 15 wounded.
_ Two British pilots were killed and four injured early Sunday morning after their helicopters collided outside of Taji, just north of Baghdad.
Nineveh Province
_ Four Iraqis were killed in a double suicide bombing outside a military base in Mosul. 16 others were wounded in the dual bombings.

Babil Province
_ A roadside bomb in the town of Madain left two Iraqi police officers and a civilian dead.
Baghdad Province
_ A suicide car bomber killed 10 Iraqis when he detonated his vehicle at a police checkpoint on Baghdad's Jadriyah bridge.
_ Police reported finding 19 bodies dumped across Baghdad in the last 24 hours. Many showed signs of torture and were believed to be the victims of sectarian death squads.
Diyala Province
_ Three Iraqi soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb went off next to their patrol in the restive city of Baqouba. Eight others were injured in the bombing.
Karbala Province
_ A car bomb exploded at a bus station in the vicinity of the Imam Hussein shrine in the holy city of Karbala, south of Baghdad. At least 47 people were killed and over 220 wounded in the blast.
Ninevah Province
_ Authorities discovered the bodies of four people in the northern town of Mosul Saturday. Two of the corpses were decapitated.
Salahuddin Province
_ A suicide car bomber killed five Iraqi soldiers in the industrial town of Beiji, north of Baghdad. An additional four soldiers were wounded in the incident.

Rundown of Violence
Baghdad Province
_ A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vest inside the Iraqi parliamentary building – situated in the heavily-fortified Green Zone – killing at least eight people and wounding nearly 30 more. At least three of the dead were believed to be MP's.
_ Part of the historic al-Sarafiya bridge, which links two northern Baghdad neighborhoods, was destroyed when a suicide truck bomber exploded his payload early Thursday morning. At least 10 Iraqis were killed in the attack and many more were missing and feared dead as a number of cars plunged into the Tigris River.
Nineveh Province
_ An Iraqi policeman was killed along with an insurgent during a skirmish in Mosul.
Tamim Province
_ Near the northern city of Kirkuk six Iraqis were killed and 19 injured when the minibus they were riding in was struck by a roadside bomb.

_ A U.S. service meber was killed while "conductiong combat operations" yesterday, the military announced Tuesday.
Babil Province
_ In Iskandariyah a bomb detonated near a house killing four of its occupants. In addition, six others were wounded.
Baghdad Province
_ A car bomb killed six civilians and injured 11 when it exploded near the campus of Baghdad University.
_ Clashes in central Baghdad left four Iraqi soldiers and three insurgents dead. 16 U.S. soldiers were also wounded in the fighting.
_ Three American soldiers were killed Monday by a roadside bomb in southeastern Baghdad.
Basra Province
_ An Iraqi policeman was killed during a firefight with militants in the southern city of Basra.
Diyala Province
_ A woman suicide bomber detonated her payload amid a throng of police recruits in the restive city of Muqdadiyah killing at least 16 and wounding more than 30 others.
Salahuddin Province
_ Three Iraqi policemen were killed when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb near Tikrit.
